Sad that this was the first time we tried KJs.. THAT CHICKEN IS AMAZINGGGG. The crunch and crisp of that skin is next level. AMAZING. My husband and I shared the fried chicken plate and it was plenty enough. SO GOOD. Dont sleep on this place.. im regretful that I have been until this trip.. The tuna mac salad and French fries are so good too
Quick service and amazing fried chicken. Fries were crispy with a capital C. Great local ambience as well. Love it
KJs! support local! ! A Kaneohe long time nostalgic local place to get grinds. They're known for their fried chicken plates which one plate contains 4 huge fried chicken thighs and two sides for $13. Sides includes tuna mac salad, rice, green beans, corn, kim chee. More than enough food for one person. This place is always crowded with never ending phone orders and catering, best to come early and usually have to plan to wait 20-30 min for more chicken to be fried if coming during busy times. The chicken has sometimes been hit and miss over the years but today's Father's Day fried chicken was on point. Juicy, crispy skin, so good!
We picked up on the way out to camp for the long weekend. Grabbed for us and another fam. Menu waaaay bigger than before. Or did I just not pay attention b/c I always just get the FC? Oh well, seems like choke stuff now. I got the FC and decided to try the Thai Crispy. No containers to put sauce on the side, so no sauce please. It was covered. Sauce sopped into green beans, kim chee and 1 piece FC. It seemed like the Chili Sauce straight out of the bottle. Too sweet for me. I could only eat 1 piece that was on top and didn't get sauced...waste of everything else. Super disappointed. Hubs got the FC and furikake...he liked. Friends got bento, garlic/mochiko x2, and garlic/adobo. Everyone liked their foods...so 4 stars. Me...I drank dinner with my 1 piece that I shared with the baby. Next time, need to check the plates before leaving. Still go back, but the trust is gone.
Not sure we can call this place a hole in the wall anymore because KJs is an absolute staple when coming into Kaneohe! Furikake chicken has been my go to order for as long as I can remember but i really should try their other plates. If you're ever in town, make sure to grab a plate, some of their snacks and the fried chicken!
Came here for the 1st time with the fam for Sunday lunch. Located in the back part of Windward City Shopping Center. Just a handful of 4-seat tables... but they were busy with lots of take-out orders. Ordered 3 mix plates... spag mac salad a must. Furikake Chicken was the all-around fav. Chicken Katsu was nice and crispy. Hamburger Steak and Roast Pork were ok... gravy was thin, wasn't the best. Prices are very reasonable (3% charge to use credit card) and free refills on fountain drinks (when dining in). Will return... to also try Spicy BBQ Chicken as recommended.
Everyone raves about the fried chicken here but to me the FURIKAKE CHICKEN is even better than the fried chicken. Deep fried cutlets of juicy chicken with a light sweet chili/teriyaki type of sauce and dusted with furikake is absolute perfection. The big problem with this place is everyone on the windward side knows KJ's is the best. So while I was waiting for my phone order, people were coming in to pickup 25 mini fried chicken bentos, large catering fried chicken orders, and the regular people ordering cheeseburgers and fries or mahi plate or whatever else is on the menu had to wait quite a bit. They don't have a good system to call out your order if you do it by phone. If you order in person, your receipt has an order #. I showed up and paid, and then probably waited 30 minutes from the time I paid til I got it, and I had to tell them I was still waiting. I was hangry by that time but hey, it was worth the wait, even though my order was cold by the time they found it. They need better communication between the kitchen and the front.
A true neighborhood gem, I've been coming to KJ's basically since it opened. My visits haven't been consistent though, because I moved to town. But I always stop in if I'm in Kaneohe in the middle of the day, and I'm always happy to support a local Kaneohe family. I always get the furikake chicken. Perfectly fried, topped with a sweet sauce and ample furikake, this one is the winner. I have never tried the famous fried chicken here because I just can't bring myself to order something other than the furikake chicken. Pair that with the tuna mac and I'm in heaven! I got spam musubis for my sons last time I was here and my youngest said he super liked them and they were his favorite! So I guess I'll need to pick up spam musubis with my furikake chicken plates! Definitely come here when you're in Kaneohe. It's sooo good.
